What to expect

Before your treatment

What if I have some questions before I book?

If you have any questions about your treatment, for example you might need help deciding what treatment is best for you, then please choose the communication method that feels most comfortable for you:

How do I book?

If you know which treatment you want to book, then you can either contact me to make your booking using whichever communication method feels most comfortable for you, or you can use my online booking system by clicking this link: https://sarahwoodhousetherapy.as.me/

Do I need to complete forms beforehand?

No. I will ask you to complete the paperwork on arrival. However, if you would feel more comfortable seeing and / or filling in the paperwork before your appointment, then please click on this link to download my consultation form.

How do I pay?

This depends on how you book your treatment.

  • If you book online - you will have the option to either pay 50% or 100% of the treatment price when you book.
  • If you book direct with me - if you are a new client I will require you to pay a minimum 50% of the treatment price. To do this I can either give you my payment details so you can pay by bank transfer, or I can send you a payment link.
  • For subsequent appointments you can pay prior to your appointment by bank transfer, payment link, or in person on arrival.

During your treatment

What questions will you ask me?

  • We always start with a conversation about what brings you here
  • You can share as much or as little information as you feel comfortable with, and there is a short consultation form to fill in. Please click the link If you would like to take a look at the consultation form before your appointment. I will have a copy for you to fill in at your appointment, but if you would prefer to fill it in before your treatment then please feel free to print it out and fill it in.
  • I'll explain the treatment before we begin.
  • You can ask questions at any point.

Do I need to wear any special clothing?

Please just wear something comfortable, bearing in mind the following:

  • When you have reflexology I will need to be able to work on your bare feet. If you do wear loose trousers, shorts, a skirt, or dress I will also be able to work on the lower part of your legs.
  • When you have a Bowen treatment or a bespoke treatment, I work through your clothes, so it is much easier for me if you wear something lights and loose. Please avoid wearing lycra, jeans or heavy canvas trouser.
  • When you have a facial I will ask you to remove your top and tuck any bra or string vest top straps underneath your armpits. This is to make sure I don't get any facial products on your clothing. I will always ask you if you would like me to leave the room so you can do this in private before getting under the blanket on the treatment couch. I will only enter again with your permission.

If you're still unsure about what you should wear after reading this, then please contact me using whatever method you are most comfortable with and I can help you.

What will the treatment feel like?

Everybody experiences each treatment differently, so it's very hard to say what it will feel like for you. I hope that whatever treatment you have, you'll find you're able to relax and rebalance, tune back into your body, and receive the support you need for your health and wellbeing.

After your treatment

How will I feel afterwards?

Everybody experiences each treatment differently, but generally people feel relaxed and calm immediately after their treatment.

Sometimes immediately after a Bowen treatment people can feel a bit light headed. This is why at the end of a Bowen treatment I ask you to sit up slowly and will always ask how you are feeling before I get you to stand up properly. If you do feel lightheaded this feeling usually passes within a couple of moments.

How people feel in the hours and days that follow their treatment is different for everyone so it is difficult for me to say how you will feel.

Will I be able to drive home immediately?

Yes, you will be able to drive home immediately after your treatment.

Are there any aftercare recommendations?

Whatever treatment you have, I always recommend two key aftercare recommendations:

  1. Keep hydrated. This means keeping your fluid intake up. Click this link to find out more about keeping hydrated.
  2. Keep moving. This means if you find yourself sat doing nothing for more than 30-45 minutes (apart from when you're sleeping!), just get up and have a wiggle and jiggle around for a minute or two! This is only for the 24-48 hours following your treatment.

Depending on what happens during your treatment and how you respond, I might offer some additional aftercare advice.

Will I need to have any follow up appointments?

Bowen

If you are coming to see me for Bowen, this will depend largely upon:

  • The reason you're seeking support - and whether it's for one or multiple issues
  • How long you've been dealing with the issues you're seeking support for
  • Your lifestyle - e.g. diet, exercise, occupation, the general and specific pressures of your life

As a starting point I generally suggest 3 treatments, each a week to 2 weeks apart over a 3-4 week period.  For most of my clients 3-4 treatments is enough and then they'll either opt for some regular maintenance treatments or see me as and when they need to. However, we will discuss the best treatment plan for you at your appointment.

All other treatments

For any other treatment it really depends on you. If you're seeking support for a specific issue then you might need a few back to back weekly sessions followed by some monthly maintenance sessions, once every 4-6 weeks might be perfect, or you just might want to try the treatment once. We'll discuss all of this at your first treatment and create a treatment plan that works for you.
