Sarah Woodhouse Therapy

HOLISTIC THERAPIST & BUSINESS MENTOR

REFLEXOLOGY, BOWEN THERAPY, LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE, AND HOLISTIC FACIALS IN BURY ST EDMUNDS & ELMSWELL, SUFFOLK

"A powerful therapy that gets to the root cause of your health and wellbeing issues - fast."

What is the Bowen Technique?

The Bowen Technique, also called Bowen Therapy, is one of the most effective and powerful therapies I’ve ever worked with: Many of my clients come to me and find Bowen has given them the support they need – and quickly.

It works on your fascia, the soft connective tissue including muscles, tendons, ligaments, and nerves, that holds and binds your body together, and scientists and researchers are acknowledging the major role it plays in allowing your body to function properly.

Multi-layered and connecting all parts of the body, it might help to think about your fascia as a tablecloth.  Just by tugging one corner of the tablecloth you change the position of everything on the table – and so one dysfunctional area of fascia in your body can change the position of everything in your body.

What are the benefits of Bowen?

Many of my clients have tried several other therapies before coming to see, and (to paraphrase) Bowen seems to be one of those therapies that ‘refreshes the parts other therapies cannot reach’! As with all the therapies I practise I don't diagnose, treat, or claim to cure any medical conditions, but problems my clients have come to me with support with include:

  • Tension, aches and joint pain
  • Posture, movement and body alignment
  • Stress and anxiety
  • Support with recovery
  • General feelings of improved health and wellbeing

Lymphatic issues?

Bowen for lymphatic support uses the same principles as Bowen, but the primary focus of the work is to help get the lymphatic system moving.

What happens during a treatment?

After an initial consultation, assessments, and observations to pinpoint where I need to work, I make key moves over specific points on your body, assessing the impact of each.

During the treatment there are short pauses, where I’ll leave you to rest on your own for between 1-3 minutes, allowing you and your body to process and respond to the work. At the end of each session, we’ll discuss any additional support you might require, including after care guidance to help you make the most of your treatment.

Session length

Your initial appointment is always 60-minutes.

The length of subsequent appointments will depend on a variety of factors and will be discussed at your initial appointment. I don't charge for longer than you need!

How many treatments will I need?

This will depend largely upon:

  • The reason you're seeking support - and whether it's for one or multiple issues
  • How long you've been dealing with the issues you're seeking support for
  • Your lifestyle - e.g. diet, exercise, occupation, the general and specific pressures of your life

As a starting point I generally suggest 3 treatments once a week over a 3-4 week period and if it's going to work for you, you should feel some benefit by the 2nd or 3rd treatment.  For most of my clients 3-4 treatments is enough and then they'll either opt for some regular maintenance treatments or see me as and when they need me.

Bowen is all about getting to the root cause of your health and wellbeing issues to create a long-term change rather than a short term fix. So, if Bowen isn't working for you after 3 treatments, if you aren't experiencing any positive results, then rather than proceed with a 4th session I'll work with you to find alternative sources of support you might like to try.
