Thai Stretch Massage

THERE IS CURRENTLY A WAITING LIST FOR THIS TREATMENT - PLEASE CONTACT ME IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO JOIN

I believe getting you moving in a safe, secure, and deliberate way allows your body to fully feel itself physically and energetically; to understand what it can do as opposed to what it thinks it can do.

What is Thai Stretch Massage?

Traditional Thai Massage has its roots in Yoga, Ayurvedic medicine, and Buddhism, and has been practised in a variety of forms since ancient times. Traditionally performed on a floor mat, I use techniques adapted for use on a massage couch.

I use a variety of traditional techniques including compression, acupressure, meridian work, gentle twisting, and yoga-inspired passive stretching. All these make for a slow and deliberate full-body massage that flows harmoniously and can often be deeply meditative for both practitioner and client.

As there is no oil used you remain fully clothed throughout your treatment so please wear something comfortable.

What are the benefits?

At the heart of Thai Stretch Massage is its ability to relieve everyday stress, help relaxation, aid sleep, and bring about a sense of wellbeing. It's a treatment I have every month because I feel the compression and passive stretching helps keep my body functioning!

How does it work?

Traditional belief is the techniques used in Thai massage help to clear and balance Sen, energy pathways in body, allowing energy to flow freely throughout the body and bringing about positive health and wellbeing.

Whether you believe in Sen or not, I believe getting you moving in a safe, secure, and deliberate way allows your body to fully feel itself physically and energetically; to understand what it can do as opposed to what it thinks it can do – which are often two very different things in my experience! This is the starting point to get you and your body back into balance.

What happens during a session?

Each treatment is tailored to you, and every treatment starts with a health and wellbeing consultation to identify the support you need. Throughout the session I will be using my body weight as an appropriate counterbalance to yours to aid compression, gentle twisting, and passive stretching. At the end of each session, we’ll discuss any additional support you might require, including after care guidance to help you make the most of your treatment.

Please note: While a Thai Stretch treatment doesn’t use deep pressure in the same sense as a ‘deep tissue massage’, if you don’t like the idea of deep, slow, and controlled pressure this might not be the treatment for you - please see the video above as an example of how pressure is applied, and contact me to have a chat if you have any questions or concerns.

Works well with...

I already incorporate some gentle stretching elements of Thai Stretch within a Holistic Facial and, where appropriate, with Bowen. If you feel you'd like a gentle introduction to Thai Stretch, I would recommend selecting a holistic facial Duo.

FAQs

What should I wear?

This is a fully clothed massage, so please wear something comfortable and cosy! During the winter I will use a heated blanket.

Is this like a traditional massage?

Not at all. Thai Stretch is very different from a traditional massage. Aside from keeping your clothes on throughout, the treatment does not use traditional massage 'moves' over the body.

Is this a deep tissue massage?

Again just a reminder this is not a traditional deep tissue massage. Instead I used my bodyweight to pour pressure onto your body, and as a counterbalance for sustained stretches and gentle twists. If you're unsure about whether or not this is the right treatment for you, please contact me at sarah@sarahwoodhousetherapy.co.uk.

How should I feel after my treatment?

Everyone responds to holistic and complementary therapies differently. We'll discuss all elements of aftercare at the end of your session, but you may wish to download a copy of my aftercare here.
